Melissa Anaya Discussion – Week 2 COLLAPSE Social validity accentuates the strategies used in the intervention, the intentions of the treatment, and the outcomes of the treatments (Wolf, 1978). Wolf proposed three components that make-up social validity, which is the social significance of the target behavior, appropriateness of the process, and the social importance of the results (Wolf, 1978). The importance of social validity provides the consumer with treatments that are deemed suitable and most effective. When applying this information, we are creating a plan that will help shape the childs behavior. By assessing social validity, we can determine the effectiveness of the individuals who are working directly and indirectly with the treatment (Copper, Heron & Heward, 2020). Behavioral interventions are a direct means for children and will have a lasting effect if parents and teachers find them acceptable. With the participation of indirect consumers, we help assure that behavior change programs can be successful. By using direct measurement of social validity, we discover specific features of procedures used and are more likely to adopt for specific learning environments (Carroll & Peter, 2014). Social validity is vital in selecting target behaviors for individuals who have a learning disability because it works on helping the child learn how to change the targeted behavior. Social validity provides a different set of assessments in which each method provides a different source of information and is used in concurrence to achieve a complete comprehension of the behavior (Cooper, Heron & Heward, 2020). As part of the assessment, social significance plays a crucial role in the behavior that is due for a change, as it impacts the significance of their social life while making sure that the intervention is age-appropriate and relevant. Still, before the intervention begins, the outcome should indicate the magnitude of change (Van Houten, 1979). Van Houten adds that two approaches will strengthen social validity: to consider the performance of skilled individuals and to employ multiple levels of performance to determine the most significant results (Van Houten, 1979). Teressa Wallace RE: Discussion – Week 2 COLLAPSE Social validity Speaking as a parent, I think we all want children to act and behave with manners and politeness, especially when they are out in a public environment. Even though my child has mental disorders, I will not accept or overlook bad behaviors. I want him to be socially accepted by the community in which we live. If my son began acting in an undesired manner, that I could not stop he might need an intervention program for the undesirable behavior (Cooper, Heron & Heward, 2020). There are three components of behavior that create social validity, appropriateness of the process, and the social importance of the results (Wolf, 1978). The social validity becomes especially important due to my sons mental conditions, making sure the treatment program does not worsen the behavior or cause more unwanted actions (Kavale, Spaulding, & Beam, 2009). The social validity heightens the schemes that are used in the intervention program. Know what the intentions are for the desired plan of treatment, and the possible outcomes (Wolf, 1978). The assessment process of social validity will often include the entire family, friends, educators, and others that spend significant time with the client. This ads in finding the correct option of treatment Social validity heightens the strategies used in the intervention, the intentions of the treatment, and the outcomes of the treatments (Wolf, 1978). Many times, this calls for an ABCA (applied behavior certified analysis). When using ABA, the goal is to shape the behavior without the use of medication, but the results need to be permanently corrected (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2020).
