Explain why. 3. Humans and animals can all learn anxieties and fears—from having scary experiences or from observing someone else with a strong fear. Explain how it was demonstrated that monkeys can learn a fear of snakes through observational learning. 4. Over-reactive, anxious parents can inadvertently teach their children anxiety disorders—such developing an intense fear of a) germs; b) of the slightest bit of disorganization and, c) of the slightest sign of imperfection. Explain the type of scenarios that an infant/toddler will experience day in and day out when they have hovering, over-protective parents. Identify the UCS, UCR, CS and CR for the classical conditioning of a fear of germs. 5. What we learn we can unlearn. Most of us reduce our anxiety by avoiding what we fear. So we wear gloves and wash our hands innumerable times a day to avoid germs; we redo a paper assignment 10 times to avoid imperfection; and we avoid disorder by not allowing anyone to touch or interact with “our stuff!!” But no matter how much time and effort we spend on these efforts, we never can totally eliminate our exposure to germs, disorder and slight imperfections—they are all part of a normal life.
