Choose a specific city or rural town within 50 miles of the Mexico/US Border. What are their problematic issues? Research the specific sites demographics using the census report (Mexican and US Census reports- links provided in the syllabus). Use other reputable sources, such as local newspapers and regional reports to discover history and problematic issues those communities are dealing with such as high unemployment, hate crimes, pollution, drugs/alcohol, forest fires, lack of water, endangered species, etc… Your research will summarize the historical and modern issues while considering demographics, the local economy, and geographic features. Research the specific sites demographics using the census report (Mexican and US Census reports- links provided in the syllabus). Within the conclusion, demonstrate critical thought by showing that you have examined the area and its problems in detail by discussing possible solutions to the biggest problems. Last, talk about the next steps of the research by stating the specific problem you will concentrate on solving with your final design project.This research activity is designed for the students to take their knowledge from the readings, class and guest lectures, videos and personal interest and apply background research to a meaningful design project which personally interests them. The student will consider present surroundings, natural geographic features, historical events/issues, population trends, social /environmental characteristics, current issues and future projections of the Mexico/US Border Region. This research/site analysis will form the basis of knowledge for the final design project.Include maps of the area and images which relate to the site and research. Use the maps and images within the body of your document to support the written discussion. Include extra and important images within an appendix.For an APA example of a proper literature review, please refer to the instructors thesis on pages 4-16 and the reference page on page 88. The thesis is posted in Blackboard. Describe the history of the site in detail. What is the sites significance to the Mexico/US Border region? What are the demographics? What are historical issues of the specific site? What is the natural environment like around the specific site? What is the current situation/news from the chosen site and its surrounding area? Minimum 10 reputable sources (government websites, local newspapers, scholarly articles, etc ) Reference page- APA format, list sources in alphabetical order according to the authors last name. Include maps and images within the body and appendix to support the written discussions.
