However, existing literature proves that strategic planning and management is critical to ensuring that hospitals and other healthcare institutions meet all their responsibilities to their primary and secondary stakeholders while still operating at safe and even profitable financial positions. The Issue (The Problem Statement) Following the onset of the Covid-19 global pandemic, a significant amount of Americans and other people across the globe have lost their jobs. Consequently, many companies and families have had to cut back on their expenses to survive the pandemic. Beyond cutting costs, several business institutions have turned to optimize their prices to optimize their financial performances amid the epidemic. Some manufacturers, logistics providers, and other supply chain players have turned to optimize their pricing to optimize their financial performance amid the pandemic. For healthcare institutions, the present conditions and statistics have had two contrasting and confusing outcomes. On the one hand, there has been an increased demand for healthcare services. BUSINESS RESEARCH PAPER 3 On the other hand, a significant amount of patients coming in cannot afford to pay for their medical bills, and a substantial share of those patients do not enjoy the benefit of a medical cover. The problem gets even more complicated because, on the one hand, hospitals are expected to save lives. Then again, healthcare providers are left questioning how they can and should afford to provide drugs to individuals who cannot afford to offer some sort of compensation, pay their bills, and remain operational if their revenue cannot meet their expenses. Resources Needed to Address the Healthcare Administrative Issue Scientific research determines that strategic planning and strategic management is a vital process in addressing any issues within operational organization and institutions. One of the leading tasks that must be addressed on embarking on the mission of strategic planning and strategic management processes is identifying the resources the specific institution requires to mobilize to effectively and efficiently address their challenge (Ginter, Duncan, and Swayne, 2018). First, the response team must identify all the stakeholders that must be informed of any changes that will be made. For investor-owned healthcare institutions, shareholders mainly comprise of the institution’s investors. For nonprofit healthcare providers, boards of directors or trustees must also be informed and involved in the process despite the existing restrictions on what decisions can be made. Therefore, legal advisory teams are crucial to developing an accurate, lawful, and reliable strategic management plan. Third, response teams should also gather relevant, credible, and upto-date information to guide them on their decision-making process (Spiers, Hofmeyer and Cummings, 2016). Studying case studies of other healthcare institutions that once struggled with the same challenge and successfully overcame their financial and operational dilemmas is vital in informing response teams on what works and what to avoid. Once credible and reliable information is sourced, response teams also have to create the change management project teams. This phase of the response stage requires that the change managers identify the critical players they will work with or wish to work with. Other resources to consider include; determining how to coach participants involved in change implementation. The response team must also source educational material that will provide employees and other critical stakeholders with all the answers to their questions. The response team must identify whether to host training sessions or hold seminars where employees and other key stakeholders will be educated on the change process. Ensuring that everyone is on board with the change process is critical to ensuring project/change-implementation success.
