Read Chapter 2 of Gendered Voices: Intro/lecture materials on pages 41-60 as well as essays #8, 9, and 10 on pages 61-67, 68-74, and 75-76. BLOG POST 1 (300 words) For this week’s blog post, I’d like you to reflect on various topics from privileges and inequalities to learning about gender and sexuality. Here are some questions to consider: Consider what privilege you might have. What are the different types of privileges you have? (keep in mind that I am a black male born in poverty) Consider what inequalities you might have experienced. What are the different inequalities you have experienced? What does it mean to say that humans are marked by differences? What does it mean to universalize the category woman? What does homogeneity mean? Explain what it means to rank differences and discuss how hierarchies occur. Discuss the 3 specific ways that societal institutions support systems of privilege and inequality and be able to give examples. How does language function to maintain systems of inequality and privilege? What are hate crimes, which groups, in particular, tend to perpetuate them, and how do they support inequality in society? To create a blog post just click “Reply” and then you can write a title and the body of your post in the “Entry Message” box. To enter a picture, you can click on the photo image in the editor toolbox. Once your text and/or your image is there and the way you’d like it, you can click “Submit” for your blog post to go up on our blog. It’s that easy! If for some reason you are uncomfortable writing about yourself on the blog, feel free to choose any character from television. Your blog post should be around 300 words and is due by Monday at 11:59 pm CST. Please post at least 2 comments to your peers’ blogs by Friday at 11:59 pm CST. Short comments are fine, as are longer ones.
