Due to the complexity of these systems, rigorous models based ontheory are not available. Therefore, the empirical equation given by Merchuk is usually used todescribe binodal curves. However, Merchuks equations provide a poor extrapolation ability.Therefore, the aim of this work is the analysis of other equations, comparing the modelsreported in the literature and proposing alternative equations to improve accuracy or to reducethe mathematical complexity. The research objectives of this project are:i) To compile a database containing experimental data of solubility of nine aqueousbiphasic systems based on ethyl lactate;ii) To select statistical criteria to be used for the selection of models;iii) To fit various empirical models to experimental data;iv) To analyse and compare the effectiveness of empirical models, allowing discussion ofthe advantages and disadvantages of each equation.MS Excel will be used as calculation tools.
