1. Select three festivals described by Dávila in Sponsored Identities and discuss them in detail. Then, compare what is presented in the festivals with the ‘officially’ sanctioned view of what is Puerto Rican culture according to the Institute for Puerto Rican Culture (ICP). Be sure to: trace and discuss the development of the official sponsored Puerto Rican culture; How and why was it structured the way it was? What is being represented? How the development of a particular ‘national culture’ was related to Operation Serenity. What is the history of the Puerto Rican government agency—Institute of Puerto Rica Culture (ICP)—in charge with protecting and promoting the culture? Discuss how the official view is sponsored by government agencies and by museum exhibits.) 8 page paper about Minority representation in the video game industry. Must Incorporate either Noam Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent theory or Stuart Hall’s Encoding Decoding theory in at least a paragraph, does not need to be the main focus. This will count as one source, 7 other, peer-reviewed sources will be needed throughout the paper, I have some sources to recommend for use as well. Must use proper MLA formatting for the sources as well. The paper is generally about minority representation in the video game industry, but the class is Latinos in the Media, so any focus on Latinos in Video games should be pointed out. Have a rough draft that was reviewed by the teacher that can be shared to get an idea of what direction I had with the paper, and recommendations the teacher had.
