Client outcomes are used to measure client progress, or lack thereof, as a result of treatment. For example, if a client entered treatment to decrease his or her anxiety level, a clinician would measure the clients anxiety level before, during, and after treatment. If a clients scores indicate a measurable reduction in anxiety, it may be a good indication that the treatment was effective. Similarly, can scores on client outcome measures indicate the efficacy of a clinician, agency, or organization?
For this Discussion, consider whether a clients outcome measures can, in fact, measure the efficacy of a clinician and whether client outcome measures evaluate agency efficacy.
With these thoughts in mind:
Based upon your understanding of the validity and reliability of client outcome measures, write a brief explanation of whether or not client outcome measures should be used to evaluate agency efficacy effectively. Then argue whether or not the outcomes measures should be used to evaluate clinician efficacy. Finally, explain one way that you might use client outcome measures in your professional practice.

Measuring client outcomes to improve services
Funding agencies are increasingly interested in hearing about service delivery outcomes,
that is, understanding what has changed for clients as a result of services they have
received.
The Data Exchange streamlines outcomes reporting, and also shares information back with
organisations, to enable them to continue to improve the way they deliver their services. This
data exchange also plays a key role in evaluating the impact of community programs and in
developing new social policy initiatives for the future.
1. What are outcomes?
Outcomes are the changes that happen as a result of what you did, that is the services you
provided to your client(s). The activities or actions themselves are often called outputs.
An outcomes framework is a tool to help you link what you are doing to what you want to
achieve for your clients, and to work out how you will measure progress towards success.
