A Democratic Society

“…if one of the primary purposes of education is to teach young people the skills, knowledge, and critical awareness to become productive members of a diverse and democratic society, a broadly conceptualize multicultural education can have a decisive influence.” Textbook page 338.What steps do you think schools can or should take to promote our democracy in today’s very diverse country?Food festivals and celebrating a cultural holiday will not be accepted as an answer. Those are examples of tokenism to make the dominant culture feel like they are doing something. These two activities are fun and interesting, but not how we will strengthen our democracy.
